Eric Yao

Eric is an experienced multi-cultural corporate and securities lawyer. Admitted in the United States, he has spent most of his legal career prior to ILCT in the China and Silicon Valley offices of several top US law firms and global venture investment funds. He has worked on numerous cross-border PE/VC financing, M&A, IPO, fund formation transactions as well as securities filings and other general corporate matters. Throughout his years as both a private practice lawyer and later an in-house counsel, Eric also accumulates valuable exposures to FCPA investigations, employment compensation, labor disputes and technology licensing transactions.

Initially trained as an electrical engineer, Eric went on to receive advanced degrees in business management and law, ultimately becoming an attorney admitted in the States of New York and Wisconsin. In addition, Eric had worked at HSBC as a commercial banker in China and Hong Kong before he set out to pursue a law degree. His academic and professional background across multiple disciplines positions him uniquely to gain insightful understanding of his clients’ operations and legal needs and wins deep trust from clients and peer legal practitioners alike.

Eric’s connection with ILCT has spanned over two decades, starting with a summer internship he did in Bangkok while a law student and lasting over the years as he and the firm maintains constant contact to keep each other abreast of their professional developments. As ILCT launches its China desk in response to growing client demand, Eric has formally joined ILCT to help bring the superb and well-admired services of the prestigious ILCT team to the vast and ever-increasing Chinese market.
